Palette Knife Paintings

Painting with only a palette knife is a style I really enjoy doing. I love to express lots of energy and texture in my paintings and I have found that palette knives are a very good tool to conduct this.

These portrait examples are the first proper paintings I have ever done, as up until recently I had only ever been interested in drawing. These two paintings are what kick-started my love for portraiture.

shells

Annabel McCraith

Although I don't generally focus on still life, as part of a project exploring the idea of  scale I decided to find the smallest shell I could and magnify it from three different angles in a series of oil studies.

Click on any image and you will be taken to the painted version. The way I have painted each one has varied slightly as my preferred style has developed (from left to right).
